NoraNagatani.com Ends Regular Run

My Precious Grandchildren

It is a bittersweet moment as I write this post — my 150th — and as I make this my final regular post.  I started this three years ago as a fun project and as an activity to keep my brain stimulated. It has definitely been fun and I’ve never been at a loss as to what to write. I’ve always been on the lookout for interesting topics, at least to me and hopefully to you, too, and they have always come my way. However, a couple of months ago, I launched a “Gracefully Age” newsletter with my Gracefully Age Program, so I’ve decided to put my efforts into the newsletter. Please sign up for my newsletter on the Home page of my new Web site, GracefullyAge.com.

Additionally, everyone knows most seniors have health issues. Have you gotten together with your senior friends and noticed that inevitably, the topic of conversations revolves around health or most likely, lack thereof. Do these sound familiar?

  • My back hurts or my neck hurts or my knee hurts.
  • I’m a pre-diabetic or I’ve become a diabetic.
  • I can’t keep up with my grandkids.
  • I don’t sleep well at night.
  • Etc.

As an energy healer, I have studied and practiced a number of modalities, but most recently, I came across one called, The Emotion Code (TEC). Previous to finding TEC, I had studied another modality which I liked, but it was very hard to explain to my clients. TEC turned out to be similar, but uses words that my clients and I understand. So I became certified in TEC.

I am really excited about being able to help people and seeing their pain and problems disappear using TEC. Depending on the number of trapped emotions that the person has, it could be a very quick session or it might take several sessions. It could be done in-person, over the phone, or simply by my being your proxy. Understand that everything is energy and that you simply need the desire to rid yourself of your trapped emotions that could be causing any number of health issues or diseases. For more information, please go to GracefullyAge.com/emotion-code.

As I say goodbye for now, I want to thank everyone for their support. As I shift my energies in other ways to help the senior population, I hope you will join me in my new endeavors. If you’re not getting up excited every morning to pursue your passion, then perhaps I can help. Check out the Gracefully Age Program and sign up for your complimentary session.

Good luck and all the best for the rest of your awesome life!

Happy New Year 2011!

It’s been just over two years since I started this blog and what an enlightening journey it’s been. When I started it, I was writing two times a week and then cut down to once a week when I started aboutalz.com. Now, as the new year begins, I am in the process of developing a new program, Gracefully Age Program  (GAP), where I work with seniors and baby boomers who struggle to find enough time to take care of their aging bodies, but would like to feel like they are in their 20’s again … except with better judgment.

My clients and I work together on the goals to be accomplished. Currently, we are in a three-month pilot program, but the actual program starts this spring and will run for six months. I am developing resources for the program as well as joint ventures. My program will be unique in that as a Cellular Response energy healer, I will incorporate energy exercises which I find totally intriguing.

As my blog has pointed out for the past couple of years, we seniors need to take care of our bodies if we want to have a good quality of life ahead of us. As I observe seniors around me, so many of them have let their bodies deteriorate. They have no energy. They have no sparkle in their faces. They are in pain. Diseases are rampant. I felt a program like GAP could help people even more than what I am doing in my Cellular Response practice. But only people who are committed to do anything to have optimal health will succeed in such a program. We all know people who could benefit from such a program, but they are going to have to want it for themselves. I will be the link that will help them achieve their goals.

So, I need more time to spend on the next chapter of my retirement career of helping more people and therefore, I will be adding to my blog every other Wednesday instead of weekly. I’ll be back in two weeks.

I appreciate your friendship. Make 2011 the best year ever!

How to Keep your Body Alkaline

As 2010 comes to a close, I hope it was a healthy year and you are looking forward to an exciting year ahead. I know I have so much to be thankful for and so much to look forward to in 2011.

Each of us has a path we can take — the illness path or the wellness path. The choices we make determine whether we’re headed for illness or for wellness. We are in charge of our own body. We determine what to consume. We decide if we are going to challenge our bodies by exercising. We are constantly making choices — one choice is just as easy to make as another choice. Still, over a period of time, one will lead to better health and one will lead to your doctor’s office. Which will it be for you?

One of the ways to keep your body free of diseases is to keep it in an alkaline state. I’ve heard it many times — diseases cannot live in an alkaline body. How do you keep your body in an alkaline state? By consuming more alkaline foods than acidic ones. Approximately 75 percent of your food intake should be alkaline and about 25 percent should be acidic. So, a lot more alkaline foods than acidic ones. This helpful chart at betterbones.com puts the alkaline-forming foods on a scale from low to high.

There are various places where you can buy pH paper such as a garden center or pet shop or even one that sells swimming pool supplies. If you want one that covers a wider gamut, you may need to find a lab supply store.
Personally, to keep my body alkaline, I take a “greens” supplement with every meal. What I like about this company is that their multi-vitamin is also packed with a “greens” caplet. I also drink alkaline water. I was recently tested by a health practitioner and my body was in an alkaline state. This is not to say that I leave the job to the supplements. I do try to make smart choices about what I eat.

I wish all of you the best of health. Take care and see you next year.

Cold Relief — Can Ionic Silver Help?

During the winter, many of us catch colds. It generally takes several days to get rid of a cold and some people like those in broadcast journalism or those in business for themselves need something that can get rid of a cold as soon as possible. For seniors with health challenges, it often leads to secondary problems and not getting cold relief can present even greater challenges. This winter I started using an ionic silver product each time I felt something coming on. I escaped winter without a cold. According to testimonials I’ve heard, even those seeking cold relief after a cold has started, shortened their cold with the help of ionic silver.

Curious about ionic silver, I did further research. Simply put, germs cannot survive in an environment of ionic silver. Furthermore, ionic silver is used not only for colds, but for many other diseases as well. But first, let’s clarify the difference between ionic silver and another term heard frequently, colloidal silver. Sometimes the terms are used interchangeably and I get the feeling that the authors are not even aware that there is a difference.

Colloidal silver is a fluid containing particles of silver. Most of the colloidal silver products are actually silver ions (dissolved silver) and not particles of silver. Ionic silver is a solution consisting of water and single atom silver ions and contains no silver particles.

According to the National Health Federation, “Ionic silver is increasingly being recognized for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial qualities and the fact that it presents virtually none of the side-effects related to antibiotics.  Ionic silver is entirely non-toxic to the body. Research at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has shown that some resistant strains of disease cannot develop with ionic silver the way that they will with antibiotics.  Reports of any pathogens developing resistance to ionic silver are rare.  Some reports indicate it even kills drug-resistant strains of germs.”

Silver has a long history of medicinal benefits. It can kill harmful organisms and leave friendly bacteria in tact (unlike antibiotics). Prior to the discovery of antibiotics, colloidal silver was used widely in hospitals. Hence, ionic silver is effective for a long list of illnesses and diseases. According to Fred Peschel in The Real Truth About Colloidal Silver – Scientific Facts Squash Stupid Rumors and Marketing Hype:

A tiny amount is a tremendous aid to your immune system, as each cell can use it to kill pathogens, relieving our over worked immune system to do daily housekeeping. It is a natural anti-inflammatory, aids mast cell production for more effective healing, etc.

IS Defense

When you choose an ionic silver product, be sure the company reveals all of the supplement facts. Click here for more information on the product I take from Vitamark International. Developer of the product is B. J. Biagioli, NMD.

In conclusion, for cold relief, can ionic silver help? I believe the answer is a resounding yes.

Exercise is a 4 letter word

Sonia Gow leading a group of seniors

This is the time of year when you’ll see and hear a lot in the media about exercise. There are lots of reasons why it’s good for you:

  • lose weight
  • improved strength and flexibility
  • stronger bones
  • better sleep
  • help prevent diseases
  • more energy
  • alleviate pain

These are all valid reasons, but what if you don’t like the word exercise? What if it sounds like a really dreary, boring thing to do even when you know it’s good for you? When you’d much rather curl up with a book or be like my friend who says when she hears the word exercise she washes her mouth out with chocolate?

How about instead of using the word exercise we use the word movement? There are lots of ways to move our bodies:

  • dancing
  • gardening
  • walking
  • bowling
  • playing in a pool (walking, classes)
  • playing with grandchildren
  • mowing the lawn,
  • shoveling snow
  • and even cleaning the house!

I have a friend who puts on happy music and dances around the house. Another one bounces on a stability ball while she watches her favorite TV show. Whatever you do, it will work best if you enjoy what you’re doing, and you do it every day.

“If you rest, you rust.” Actress Helen Hayes.

I love this quote – for me it says it all. Maintain and increase your independence and control over your life. Forget about exercise and get moving!

This post was written by Sonia Gow.  She is a certified fitness instructor with special certifications in older adult fitness and aquatic exercise. Her focus is on balance and fall prevention through her Flamingos in Training program. The exercises she uses are also suitable for those with chronic illnesses like Parkinson’s, MS and arthritis, as well as post-rehab. Many are the same as those recommended by physical and occupational therapists. Sonia is a member of the International Council on Active Aging and volunteers with the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area. She was previously featured in another blog post. She calls her exercise program, Flamingos in Training, because flamingos have good balance and so can you! She works primarily with older adults, and offers classes specifically for people with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers, both land and aquatic, in the home and in retirement communities. For more information on her program, click here.
